Goddess of Dacia (Romania)

the Pietroasa Treasure

elaborated worked golden plate with goddess figure rising up in center

This ritual offering bowl (patera) was part of a Gothic treasure hoard found in 1837. It shows a goddess seated in the center and surrounded by what appear to be Gothic deities in Greek attire. Gothic invaders overran Dacia, forcing the Romans to withdraw from what is now Romania. This patera dates to the 4th century.

Closeup view of the goddess in flowing robes with a vessel in her hands. This fine piece was part of the Pietroasa Treasure: 22 golden objects, including eagle-headed pins, a large tray, two necklaces and a rune-inscribed torc. Only twelve have survived.

This gold bowl in late antiquity has a prototype deep in the neolithic.
I've misplaced attribution for this image which dates back before the
5th millennium, but will add it as soon as it turns up.
