Portugal

Broken top of female statue with necklaces from Crato.

Another example from Quinta da Couquinho.
The faces resemble those of Rouerge, France, while the horizontal line separating face from necklaces is seen in the western Spanish statue-menhirs.

At right: Statue menhir from Ermida, northern Portugal, with tree pattern on torso. The breasts with nipples are unusual, although some in less pronounced relief are found in female statue-menhirs further to the south, in central Alentejo.
This one came to light in 1987.

Below: a faintly-marked relief of face, necklace, croo, and possible vulva on menhir from the stone circle at Vale Maria do Meio, east of Evora.

More female statue-menhirs from the
stone circles of central Alentejo region
