Cretan coins in the classic Greek era continue to pair the labyrinth with a goddess, now the Olympian variety.

Cretan themes were taken up in other places, especially Anatolia:

Ariadne abandoned on Naxos, languishing in a grotto. Coin from Pergamum, Asia Minor.

Drawing of a sculpture from Praesus, showing that the Cretans continued to modify outside myths and symbols to their own patterns. This Gorgon has her tongue out, and two snakes coming out of her shoulders, but she also holds two snakes before her body in the ancient style. She is also unique among Gorgons for her ladylike dress and coiffure.
